Fenton Glass is perhaps the largest maker of handmade colored glass. The company has been producing exquisite pieces since 1905 and remains family owned and operated today. Fenton red glass first appeared in 1924 and was sold under the name “Venetian Red”.
Fenton colors their glass the same way that glass makers have for hundreds of years, they use all natural metals to color the glass instead of dyes. Fenton red glass is made by adding pure gold to the glass mixture when it is molten. Because of the precious metal mixture in the Fenton red glass, this color of glassware is highly sought after by collectors.
Because Fenton glass is all handmade, no two pieces are exactly alike. Molds may be used to create a shape, but inevitably they will each be unique.
