The Fenton rose bowl has taken different forms, some made of clear glass and some opaque. Pieces are small, round bowls in vivid colors, but within those parameters there is a great deal of variation.
The Fenton rose bowl has sometimes incorporated new technology, as in the case of the Lotus Mist Burmese design. Here, a new technique was used to put pure gold into the glass batch so it would appear rose-colored when reheated. The pink design appears against a background of delicate, opaque green. Another piece, the French Opalescent Rose Bowl, incorporates bone ash into glass for a milky opalescence. Another example is the Rose Bowl in Marigold Carnival, in which metallic salts are sprayed on a base color to produce various colors.
